Persephone Personified. Poem by Marie Bliss

Persephone Personified.

Trekking through the desert
with my clan
the heat of the sun warming
each cell.
I'm all at home- here,
each member a place of residence,
in which I can reside.
We stop and I see
that its for me
because its time,
and a voice waits to know,
'are you ready for this'?

The world stops dead and spins,
A mountain comes into view,
at the bottom- a caveman,
with basic appetites and limited mentality.
He drags the woman underneath
kicking and screaming
She's going down
ready or not
and no-one will help her
or give her clothes to face the cold.
She must go alone.
She must work this out.
She's Persephone personified.
Her world's about to change.
When she return's
five years down the track
another journey awaits,
the trek home
to find her clan
and her place in it.
