Ph: Politics: Crawling Toward My Grave Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Politics: Crawling Toward My Grave

I'm barely crawling toward my grave
And lucky to have come this far!
A life lived mostly not a knave,
Or specimen in someone's jar.

It's not so easy to stay clear
Of folks who'd label us at times,
A president so cavalier
He flogs a foe charged with his crimes!

Trump's 'FAKE NEWS, ' racist's soupe du jour,
His allies, rats now jumping ship,
His wife pretends to love wild boar,
His mistresses know he's a dip! (1)

Those anti-science love his lies.
Trump's rich friends gorge on tax-free pies,
Consolidate ill-gotten gains,
More terrorists who bomb with planes.

Still, some can laugh! It's quite a show
When truth and lies are one, you know.
Destruction's simple, hard to build,
But jump in! Join glib traitor's (2)guild!

Poet's Notes:
(1)An abbreviated form of "Dipstick! "
(2)There is more than one way to betray your country!

It may not seem apparent to all readers, but I do not "hate" Donald Trump. Instead, I hate several actions he has taken (openly admitted or easily proven)and some activities that suggest he has committed more impeachable crimes (though these are not confirmed yet) .

Proven offenses (inexplicably ignored by many claiming to be Christians)are blatant and ongoing infidelity with prostitutes and flagrant nepotism (what president has dared to do this before) ? Other offenses include the persistent use of his high office to make money for his family and all attacks on political opponents suggesting they deserve imprisonment without trial. But his worst offense to me is his constant science denial that seems to be aimed at self-enrichment and to appeal to those whose inadequate education (perhaps)makes them fear science and the change that it does bring to the world. To suggest that 'Science' is "Fake News! " is a crime against humanity in my opinion! More shame on his head!

To condone such behavior for political gain shows how deeply divided our nation is today. "Better the devil we know than the one we don't! " seems the motto of many! Though to be fair, there are many Democrats that also have tendencies in this direction. I roundly condemn anyone who does not embrace the give and take of a more civil politics, and the willingness to admit that political opponents are not the real enemies. Let us instead do battle with those who would deny all an equal chance at a quality education. Let us work toward a basic level (at least)of healthcare! Let us insist on equal protection for individuals under the law (which should include responsible and fair taxation!)Let us admit that attempts to "force" party members to vote in a block (against their conscience)for any party's political advantage are a crime against both politics and representative government.
