Phantasmagoria Poem by Naveed Khalid

Phantasmagoria

Your eyebrows haunt me the most,
beshadowed by darkling mascara,
a moon-lit night forever to my living memory,
beside the oak, of first frost her falling snow;
her concave mirror of various hues 5
and shades in blues saturate the sky,
a few stars scattered here and there,
some serve for your goggles,
some flout about in wilderness with
high-winged birds o'er the dale in silent 10
hours of soliloquy; the eagle on wings, on wings,
carries you places far-off beyond the sunrise;
palm trees are standing still, on guard,
touched by clouds of rain in autumn wind,
pray ye on with solemn hands,15
raised to the nature's deaf ear:
such a picturesque imagery as that
can be seen on the bay:
where boats are tied to the strings,
waiting to break loose their sails 20
away from the golden banks,
the roving boats under the hills,
are ready to dart forth ere thine unweird eyen;
the best archer's bow is stretched across
the horizon in deep azure, makes hallow of a ring 25
around yore head of laurel wreath thy myrtle crown;
while you sit still in the centre stage
this compact house of show,
hold a magic lantern in nous of light (pleroma) :
else I may relate you with 30
Leonardo da vinchi's God,
who can decode the language
of all species, except that one
common man's code of life to break,
you need no star but thy star in haystack of woods; 35
the setting sun at my door of hallowed fire;
that the more he looks the more he loses sight of himself,
and the (aeon) world around him would vanish as far as
the eyes can go, for as long as this world is
of wanton tapestry at thy throne in timeless tide. 40
