Pilgrim's Prayer Poem by Cornelis Rudolf van Schalkwyk

Pilgrim's Prayer

Lord my God, i beg of Thee
to set my soul, my spirit free
let me roam this blessed land
until i leave it, by Your hand

i ask not romance nor for love
they will but bind my feet too much
but bless my family and my friends
as i depart upon the winds

i need not money nor riches of gold
just clothes on my back
and a Pen to hold

and but where i lay down my head
sleep will come, so it is said
on top, underneath, outside and in
each night and every, rest as my kin

as for Drink and as for Food
i pray to You let these be good
healthy body
healthy mind
and in the end
my Lord i'll find
