Pilgrimage Poem by Varghese J Kuttikat

Pilgrimage

Rating: 4.5

You are now in a trance, drinking in the wine of praise
Are you ready for fortune the goddess capricious
In her vulgar infidelities indulgent?
Ready or not, cup of bitterness you have to drink from
And that too, not once or twice, but a lot quite frequent
Burst of hilarious 'hosannas' may later be drowned in cries for blood
And shall crucifixion disgraceful always culminate in resurrection glorious?
Only uncertainty is certain in this world of flux
Yet staggering up Golgotha gruesome
The pilgrim fixes his steady gaze
At the stellar flame released by self-extinction.
