Plain Jane Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

Plain Jane

The mirror
Shatters
Into pieces
Seeing my
Reflection
Envying
How can
Such a
Plain Jane
Attract such
Attention!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

But of course the mirror will shatter, the mirror is designed to see what reflects not what absorbs. The mirror is designed to distinguish and adorn what reflects and not what illuminates. Tis the mind, tis always in the mind, and the mirror doth never knew it, being a man, a slave of the world of what reflects. It is ironical that the mirror shattered for what was reflected and not for what illuminated.
