Please Poem by Mehreen Mujeeb

Please

Can people please stop driving cars;
Screeching on striped, glossy roads.
On mother earth’s bare skin we have made scars,
By those rugged tyres that scorch.

Can people please turn off the lights.
The stars have dissolved in the dark blue sky.
No twinkle reaches my vacant eyes.

Can people please stop talking.
The melodies of nature,
Are pierced by our harsh words
And our loud cries.

Can people please stop fighting.
Throwing bombs and crying for those who die.
There are more worthy reasons to fight for.
If we don’t stop now, we will all die.

Can people please stop pitying themselves.
They cry all day while our mother earth rots away.
The earth silently cries,
It weeps,
But silent cries only lead to silent deaths.

We should listen closely to our mother,
To act upon what she wants.
All we do is act upon lies,
Or things that would waste her,
In nuclear sighs.

A very beautiful, pleasing poem each line of which seems to be a lesson.
