Polesworth Poem by Daffodil Jackson

Polesworth

Rating: 3.1

In a village in a valley
Is the place where I was born.
Dear old Polesworth near to Tamworth
Where I greeted my first dawn.
..........

I close my eyes to reminisce
And the mist of memory clears.
I hear the calls of childhood friends
Echoing through the years
..........

I smile as I think of my old school
The Nethersole Cof E.
Where Mr. Knight the headmaster
Taught the three R's to me.
..........

I remember the old dungeon entry
Where we'd knock on the door and then run.
Fearful in case we'd awakened
The ghost of a long dead nun.
..........

I recall the Church of St. Editha
Benevolent and time worn.
Playing host to our aspirations
And fetes on the vicarage lawn.
..........

Yes a multitude of memories
Come crowding back to me.
Of the Polesworth of my childhood
Where my heart will ever be.
