We all know he's a pompous ass
you know it and I know it for sure
since I'm the guy in your sights
prancing and wagging on stage
for your edification and delight
begging like the pauper I am
for a smile or a mark of approval
at what I do as an avocation
a self-chosen exile you say?
I read poetry the livelong day
hunting for similes and metaphors
trying to snatch them in phrases
and lines that sparkle with wit
that I don't have a dime's worth
of my own but I can claim as mine
even the parody of poet-tree
is beyond me, alas
I found this in 'apoem aday'
by Earle Birney-
i fear that i shall never make
a poem slippier than a snake
or oozing with as fine a juice
as runs in girls or even spruce
for today moonday jan 5 2009
