Poor Lil Larry Poem by Hal Emmerich

Poor Lil Larry

Poor lil Larry chose to marry
And brighten up his life,
But no matter how hard he tried
No girl would be his wife.

He searched the village, searched the town,
And no one could he find,
He asked all girls to take his hand,
The answers were unkind.

He packed his things and left the town,
He left the village too,
He'd had his chance, he'd done his part,
And no more could he do.

He left home in the dead of night
And headed to the forest,
Of all the wounds he had received
His sadness was the sorest.

He walked along into the dark
And nothing could he see,
Until he saw a shiny being,
But oh! What could it be? !

He tracked the light and found a girl,
Her face was shining bright,
Her lips were blue, her eyes were too,
Her hair was milky white.

He told himself, "Oh! One more girl!
How beautiful is she! "
He cleared his throat and asked the girl,
"Oh, will you marry me? "

The lady smiled, she quietly said,
"Oh marry you I will;
But I must tell you, I'm an elf;
Now do you want me still? "

"Of course I do, my lovely one! "
Said Larry with a smile,
She kissed lil Larry on the cheek
And eyed him for a while.

He held her hand, they walked away,
And no more was he seen,
For Larry chose to live with elves,
A world of grassy green.

Poor lil Larry chose to marry,
And so at last he could,
He chose a bright and lovely elf
That not a human would.

He said goodbye to human world,
Where sacred love had died,
Where selflessness had turned to dust,
Where all the people lied.
