Poppies Poem by Mamta Agarwal

Poppies

Rating: 5.0

Before taking the DND flyway,
I casually glanced sideways,
And was captivated by the sight
Of millions of poppies:
The colour of gulal, growing along the way.

Happily swaying and bobbing
Their fragile heads with the breeze.
I told the driver to halt,
As I wanted
To see them from close.
Their lively faces seem to beckon,
And I broke into a big smile.

Didn’t we make dolls while at play,
By turning their petals down to make a frock,
I vaguely recalled.

I think I looked weird,
Standing on the road side
Talking to myself,
Who cares, its time to celebrate
Long awaited winter has finally arrived
In its colourful splendour.
