Portage And Main (Or Tale Of A Winnipeg Minuteman) Poem by William B. Petricko

Portage And Main (Or Tale Of A Winnipeg Minuteman)

Portage and Main
Will freeze the brain
In sixty seconds so they say
But dare to try
You'll wonder why
The minute mark and who were THEY.

In ten or less
Your mind's a mess
But frozen so secure and fast
That chilling there
You'll stand and stare
And let the count of sixty past.

So there you'll stay
In bronze to play
Forever and forever cast
In Winnipeg
On frozen leg
To grin at souls that never last.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
You'd have to live (or have lived) here in Winnipeg to appreciate this. The bronze statues in front of the Richardson Building 'get it'. Give it a try if you're ever by in winter(between October and May) .
