Portrait Poem by Atef Ayadi

Portrait

She put her fingers
On top of each other
To mimic
The octopus' arms movement
They Expel
And retract.
Her tongue
Swept her lips
Every five retractions
She exhaled four words:
Derive,
Stimulus,
Inspired,
And ultimately.
They remain suspended
And
Echoing
In the air.
This is an impressionist portrait
Of a woman
Explorer.
Who simply asked
to be explored.
