Prairies
Searched for the prairies,
In one of the dictionaries,
They defined it funny! ! !
Ignoring Bison's role?
Ignoring Buffalo?
Ignoring the leaders?
Big Bear and Poundmaker?
Wandering Spirit,
That hero and savior?
Even talk of snow,
And the wind every night,
And great night skies,
And the icy frosts,
Clusters of tepees,
With fires and smoke,
And flaps to keep safe,
Food, heated, delicious,
Bed of hay, tanned covers,
Are turned into a soap opera.
Prairies are great,
Not in the modern way,
With cows and tractors,
Farmers in farmhouses.
Prairies are great,
When elders were hunters,
And queens were women,
And polite were younger,
Regardless of gender,
Being a boy or a girl.
I see those prairies,
Whenever researching,
The older days' cultures,
Watch Braves in Sundance,
Winning war and return,
I like those prairies,
Not that of the colonialist.
