Pray Poem by Jessie Mahoney Bathis

Pray

I awoke early yesterday morning,
Rushing right into my day.
I had so much to accomplish,
That I’d forgotten to pray.
Problems tumbling upon me,
Heavier came each task.
Why doesn’t god help me?
I remember, I never asked.
I searched for joy and beauty amongst us,
The day toiled on, grey and bleak.
I wondered why god didn’t show me,
I remembered, I didn’t seek.
I tried to come into the presence of god,
How hard I tried.
How could I forget him?
Without him, who am I?
I awoke early again this morning,
And paused for a moment before entering the day.
So much there is to do,
I still have time to pray.
