Pre-Exercise Poem Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Pre-Exercise Poem

Rating: 5.0

I don't want to exercise!
Yes I do!
My body is screaming 'No! '
Better things to do; I can think of a few

My muscles are still on fire from yesterday
I didn't sleep well, by the way
I can exercise tomorrow or any other day
That's my excuse today

But an inner voice screams out
and fights with the doubt
The two toss about
but the voice has more clout

It wins with this simple plea:
'Don't whimp out! ! '
I change into shorts and t-shirt
drink some water and forget about the hurt

WIth exercise there are good days and bad
A mixture of pleasure and pain
But the exercise pays dividends
I can take a little pain, because it's rarely in vain

As they say...No Pain - No Gain!
I'm just not so used to this yet
This regiment of trying to train
Elevated now to my priority main

I say it's something I've just got to do
to fight the bulge and to feel a little less blue
Exercise takes time; So minutes...I'll devote more than a few
I try to psyche myself up as I lace my athletic shoe

I take an extra sip of energy drink colored blue
Weights await me and cardio too
Oh the HELL I'm going to have to go through
But I have a greater sense of what I must do

I tell myself it's a mid-life point of view
Be good to your body and it will be good to you
As my heart rate begins to zoom
I watch the clock and pray the session will be over soon
