Prometheus Poem by William McGehee

Prometheus

To pass beyond where angels fear to go
Mankind must seize the spark to kindle fire
And learn the truths that Gods can never know.

What great omission fell on us below?
What error born by us to then inspire
To pass beyond where angels fear to go.

For naked we were formed, and weak, although
We supersede the bounds of nature's sire
And learn the truths that Gods can never know.

Where flesh may stall and yield beneath a blow,
The mind provides us all we may require
To pass beyond where angels fear to go.

Split the atom, soar past the stars and so
Exceed the throne of Zeus upon its spire
And learn the truths that Gods can never know.

We ought to ever strive to think and grow,
What greater fate do mortals dare aspire?
To pass beyond where angels fear to go
And learn the truths that Gods can never know.
