Promise Of A Lie

Rating: 5.0

Go to war young soldier,
Your glory will be praised.
Go to war young soldier,
Your home will stay the same.

Fight for us young soldier,
worry naught about your love.
Fight for us young soldier,
She waits for your return.

Welcome home young soldier,
Heres the medal upon your chest.
Welcome home young soldier,
Your life is now a mess.

Go away young soldier,
We have no more use for you.
Go away young soldier,
Till we call again for you.

I serve our great country in the army at the age of 18 my dad was a soldier so was his father and his. In the 18 years of my life i have seen the good and bad times our country has faced, but i serve because i love this country, being only 18 i catch myself wondering if i will live to make to my 21st birthday this poem is true when i leave will the girl i love love another...when i leave will my life stay the same as i left it...when i leave will i be forgotten? the thought of war doesn't scare me...its the thought of returning home to the unknown...but i am a soldier...a soldier fighting for freedom, to protect the beliefs of our country...a soldier now...a soldier always

I don't feel he is talking down or bad about soldiers... but about the way people, and society treat soldiers. I've been in 12 years now and I can relate to this poem. I know some of you service men/women have heard the saying 'nobody loves a soldier unil the enemy is at the gates'. Nice piem Sean

i am a soldier in a line unit. A soldier is God's greatest creation, a soldier knows that his life is a lonely life, but a soldier feels pride and courage like no-one else. The American Anthem never made me cry until i became a soldier, the sight of the American Flag didn't make my heart swell and my eyes water until i became a soldier. So yea, the life is a hard one... buts it the only one for me.

I am sorry you feel this way, as I am aspiring to become a soldier myself. I understand what you are saying but i dissagre as i believe that being a soldier is the greatest achievment you can accomplish. Some people will say i used to be a doctor, lawyer, plumber; but you are always a soldier and it is something more important than yourself it is for your country. As most people say this isn't our war, were in there for the wrong reasons. I agree but we are still in there and i feel sorry for anyone who hates, or talks bad about our soldiers because they are what is letting you write that poem. I know you've hear that all the time but think about it. In Hitler's Germany if you talked bad about him or his soldiers you will get shot in the back of the head. In Stalin's Russia they would take you out to exile and let you die SO THINK HARD ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE WRITING BECAUSE YOU BETTER HOPE THAT SOLDIERS KEEP FIGHTING SO YOU CAN WRITE YOUR POEMS

very nice concept, could be written with more stanza and extra explanation, but overall it is good
