Promises, Promises Poem by Shalyn Stachmus

Promises, Promises

Rating: 4.0

Hissing headaches and snake pits shadow me through,
And here deadly darkness disguises these wounds.
The pain from love I thought I knew.
But now I know I don't know much.

And if you love me, say it now.
It's never heard if no one hears a sound.
Say it loud.
Say you love me, so I can die without a doubt.

Bloody hopes and cold war wage in and out of sins,
And then they pool hatred at the bottom of bliss.
The pain inside, it crushed my mind to bits.
And now I know I don't know a thing.

If you love me, say it now.
It's never learned if no one hears a sound.
Say it loud.
Say you love me, or I'll die to go without.

Between the screens, static subdues you.
You search for escape, but I know it's no use.
The pain from love I thought you knew.
But now I know you don't much.

Don't promise me forever. Just leave it alone.
Don't promise forever. You'll reap what you've sown.
The pain inside, it slays all your hope,
And will cast you off in the cold, to die.
