When we hear
the words from
the book of Isaiah,
they seem
familiar to us:
What the prophet
said about himself
at the beginning
of the book of Isaiah,
we know from
the mouth of Jesus:
He uses the words
of the Prophet to
tell everyone
who he is.

Jesus thus places
himself completely
in the prophetic
tradition of Judaism.

His identity and
his mission are
inextricably
linked with tradition.
