Puppet Love Poem by Gary Duffy

Puppet Love

I had to catch myself
Looking to my side
Just on past your head could I see the bedside
I remember thinking I could feel my heart sinking as I acknowledged the fact you weren't mine
But in that moment you were in my shrine

I wish I was a carpenter I'd expertly glue
My Spoken words in a book that I'd give only to you
With all I have in my head everything left unsaid
Every word in it solemnly true

And though the thought scares me
Of anyone reading this but you
I can feel the iceberg is tipping to reveal what I can't tap into
The bottom part the one buried deep so below coated in richened deep blue

I find you through shades of golden and silver
Wearing coats that look better on you
But I'll stand under stars unbeknownst to my shiver
Looking for constellations in which you can find us two

So I sit here my eyes fixed to the frame
Thinking you were the dealer And I just play the game
You read me and know I must be a pleaser
And you tried to make that task easier
First my own heart will murder and maim
