Push My Blues Away Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Push My Blues Away

Tonight I think I'll play the blues
I'll get on a stage with others I don't know
A bass player, a drummer, another guitar
We'll try to improvise a song on a stage for show
But it's just a chance to plug in and play
and to let heart and fingers display
the inner feelings and emotions hidden away
that find a way out someway
when I pick and pluck strings in a certain way
and hold some bend some and make a moment stand still
feel inside sometimes a tingling or a chill
that comes up from my soul
and expression makes me feel more whole
Some people say the blues can heal
And let a broken heart remember how to feel
and cry out in in a howling wail
a personal tale, that words can't begin to say
but come out somehow when I play
It takes me some nerve to get up on stage
I'm too shy and concerned for someone my age
But somehow today I suddenly feel the urge
to play, to push my blues away
