These tears are fears broken through after years of suppression..
we think of time as never ending.. an endless sea..
a growing expanse and nothing to fear..
til the doctors words fall on crowded ears..
time stops for a moment.. your life’s reel flashes..
as your heart bashes against your ribs.. aching and straining..
your time here is more limited than you’d ever imagined..
“tell me there’s a cure tell me there’s a treatment”..
these black and white images take time to process..
it’s a mark here and a circle there..
worried glances exchanged between faces half hidden by surgical masks..
your time has been rationed..
it’s the end of an era and the start of your last..
how do you hide the fear.. bury the tears..
and smile like this is all from what you had been asking …
you cough in fits as blood coats the sink..
your lungs burn and the pressure builds..
you suck for air but feel all you’ve got is water..
fluid swishes with every breath..
your mind races and runs for the emergency switch..
your visions fading and your body’s screaming..
your chest is bound tight.. and your legs go limp as you stumble to sit..
you think to yourself could this be it.. so quick and swift..
as you try to draw a seemingly last breath..
but the tides change the fluid releases you sigh with relief..
and think nothing is instant.. instant noodles are hardly so..
ten minutes of searing pain and lungs filled with fluid..
drowning from the inside is the furthest from instantaneous..
as they impatiently pace one more minute is too long to wait..
but I digress this situation is bound to replicate.. replaying everyday in a harbor of distress and woefulness..
