You effusively greet me, full of zest,
Welcoming as only you know best,
Jumping, prancing, tail wagging with glee,
Panting, elated, just to see me;
Your eyes imploringly with mine meet,
Begging a walk, a fetch, a scratch or treat,
Dripping profusely, Pavlovian drools,
Sniffing and marking, piddle and stools;
You are pugnacious, never deflecting,
Always courageous, pack protecting,
No matter big or small, husky or slight,
Ready to bark, to growl, to fight;
What become you, years to come?
Licking lips, breath to mine, succumb,
Great gassy slips, whence be drawn,
And what be done when you be gone?
Your pups to greet me from that point on!
