R I P Poem by Clayton Anderson

R I P

In everything I’ve ever said, everything I’ve ever done;
I lied to you, I lied to me, I lied to our newborn son;
I promised I’d be there for you no matter what may be;
I failed to truly follow through, I failed to really see;
In all the love I’ve felt for you I never said out loud;
That which you really should have heard, that was lost within the crowd;
Now I watch in silence as you prepare to go;
And maybe now I realize things you'll never really know;
I’ve hung the stars above me in honor of your eyes;
I'll look to them each night to hold back my souls attempt to cry;
My sun will always rise in a place meant just for you;
But now it will remind me of that which you never knew;
That deep within my heart there lies a place with a silver crest;
It's here I’ll lay my life with you to a silent, final, rest.
