Race Is Not For The Swift Poem by Olusegun Sotade

Race Is Not For The Swift

Speed of light is not for race
but to spread illumination through which darkness is erased,
so that the truth covered by shadow be raised
in clear gleam before peoples' face.

Only the downtrodden have the honour of being raised.
'Slow but steady' is the key to redemption phase.
Conquered challenge is the testimony of amazing grace,
for its glory booms at heavenly pace.

Swiftness of horse is mocked by a stride of an Ostrich.
Don't pull with ladle what is out of reach.
Blessing of God is the only handle by which
door to wealth is opened in no sorrowful niche.

How can a giant be evaluated if not tested
by the troubles that commensurate the weight imprinted?
What is the worth of victory if pain is not inflicted
in a conflict for which 'win' or 'loss' is the aim invested?

If swift, as a quick shift in flipped drift,
is below the lift of optic fibre gift that is slithering in trip,
and none is fit to raise bar for the racing cell,
then it is not how far but how well.

Hustling and bursting elude the means by which wealth is earned.
Fish wades through the springs in the depth of sea by its head.
God made us plain and simple to befit everlasting freedom
but we made ourselves complicated in a race void of wisdom.
