Radio Poem by Tim Larsen

Radio

Rating: 5.0

The road seems longer than usual
Tonight.
Lines repeat and words relieve
But only for some time
Scanning the radio I find
Content in things that are the same
That never change

Watching the road I see more of the same
And it’s so damn great
But I cry a little inside
When the beat shifts to mine
When I see her face in the lines
When suddenly the song is our conversation
Blasting through the speaker by my ear
Lurching through my mind, I steer

Clear of the road
Plummeting into a tree
My back aching, my neck bent
There’s no hope left, time ill spent
My head resting on the open window to my side

It’s raining on the outside of the car
And now I can feel it with my head exposed
Drops like tears running down my neck
And into my veins
Like a pulsating pain
Reminding me that life is beyond these leather seats

That radios and airwaves are for those who love
And car crashes are for those who forget
