Rain's Gratitude Poem by Alan Chen

Rain's Gratitude

Rating: 5.0

I sit and stare out the greying window,
With blank and unseeing eyes.
Knowing that the fresh clouds rolling in
And the winds rattling the wooden frames
Will soon bring rain.

Moments after my eyes close,
I begin to hear the tapping of water at the window.
Carelessly, the clouds above let loose,
And let fall another ocean towards the earth.
Watching the droplets streaming down the glass,
I decide against reason to open the window and let the rain in.
The storm embraces me for a moment,
To repay my unconscious act of kindness,
And as it did, I felt the winds whistling through my ears
And the rain,
Oh, the clear and magnificent rain...
It begins to wash away my worries,
My fears,
My anxiety.
I gently lean into a welcoming chair,
And let it wash everything away.
Cleansing and cleaning through my emotions,
Until only the pieces and fragments of calm and serenity are left.

Soaked in both fatigue and the tears of sky,
I rise and stride across the room like a shadow towards the open window.
Pausing in my steps,
I glance outwards,
And realize,
Like a hand that lifts a veil,
The rain had cleared my blank and unseeing eyes;
And where I had seen darkness and grey,
I now see light.

I steal another glimpse,
As if I were not worthy,
And humbly, with my being at peace,
I silently shut the frames closed.
