Rainy Day Friend Poem by Liiz Winters

Rainy Day Friend

Rainy was the day
I chose to splash and play
When a high pitched cry, not far
Came from bellow the car
I followed curiosity
To find a wet, black kitty
-And with it, I fell in-love

I took him in, to eat and rest
The days that came became the best
We played and grew together
It couldn't have been better
In my empty house I knew there was
Someone I can love and trust
-And like that I feel in-love

Then, I heard yells, yells of mean
Words I'd never heard or seen
Then, came my birthday, and he wasn't there
Only his bed and favorite chair
My days were full of black cold
Alone, I was getting old
-And like that I'd lost a love

Years flew by, and the black still lasts
From that empty day in my past
When who I trusted took away
The friend I've longed for, every day
I spent my days locked away,
In a room that seemed so sad and grey
Then out my window, on a rainy day
A high-pitched cry came my way
-And with it, returned love
