I Hear Poem by Liiz Winters

I Hear

I hear the gate creek
I hear it creek like sorrow
I hear the sorrow cry
I hear it cry in horror
The horror echoes past the gate, the gate, it hears her sorrow
I hear the wind, carrying voices
I hear the voices ask, confused
I hear them confused by noises
I hear them ask, their voices bruised
The bruises of a lifetime past, marked by those unwise choices
I hear the begging mother
I hear the mother's need
I hear the need in others
I hear the need's plead
The pleads of souls, souls that can't leave, trapped to do an undone deed
I hear the man shot down for freedom
I hear freedom shot down by man
I hear grunts of shots without reason
I hear reason ignored by grunts of hate's plan
The reason we die for others' lives, then live to reason death
I hear us talk
I hear us fight
I hear us blindly looking for the light
I hear us hate
I hear us cry
I hear us falling, absent, from the sky
