Rapture Poem by Alyssa Rieper

Rapture

“Life is a party, ” that was my motto
Wherever my friends went was where I would follow
“Bad to the bone, ” “worst of the worst”
Reputation fulfilled, and yet, I searched
I was once told about a man
Who, long ago, lived on this land
“Jesus, Abba, Son of God”
Tried to ignore it but the words still clawed
I let my bad life take the lead
But, emotional hunger was yet to feed
My life went on, but I did not know
God above and the devil below
I woke up suddenly, at a bar
By a sounding trumpet from afar
I went outside just to find
An angel of heaven, so sweet and kind
I stood in “Awe” as people came
Many of who I knew their name
They floated up into the sky
Looked back down and waved “good-bye”
Now, here I stand and, in remorse, I grieve
Because, now I know that I believe
