Rays Poem by Herbert Nehrlich

Rays

It was a single golden ray,
sent by the morning sun.
As unexpected as a stray
right when the night was done.
It warmed the heart and all the blood
of one big rattlesnake,
its camouflage a coat of mud
and life was now at stake.

As sun gives life it takes away
from you your final breath.
A single ray of sunshine may
prepare you for your death.
