I read a novel
It gives me knowledge and pleasure,
I read a drama
It gives me knowledge, pleasure and technique,
I read a poetry
It gives me knowledge, pleasure, technique and arts.
Mere reading a novel, reading drama and reading poetry won't give any desired results. More than that, an intercourse with the language, theme, ideas, style of presentation, methods employed by the author or poet etc are needed for the real enjoyment of reading. I don't read any novel, short stories or a poem just to gain any knowledge. Knowledge is only a byproduct as you can see. Readings are not done just as part of my time-pass. Something inexpressible draws me to the sphere. Why are we writing poetry and stories? Only the poets and authors can answer. We want to quench our internal thirst. There is an internal drive behind our readings and writings. It can't be defined or expressed in so many words. Thank you. The poem describes your personal experience but have a second look at your internal drives more carefully. You will realize that they lie beyond simple definitions.
Thank you for this great comments and your opinions on reading, actually it depends on personality
