Reality Poem by Scott Murray

Reality

I woke up today alone in my bed
The sky outside was covered in grey
There was a single strand of hair on your side of the pillow
I wrapped it round my finger
It turned red and started to pulse
The beat matched my own heart
A steady Thump
Thump
Thump……..
It reminded me of love, and all the things you feel
The pleasure at first
But as the pulsing of my artificial heart went on
Just like love, it gets painful
Just like love it gets unbearable
I knew if I kept the strand of your hair there the finger would die
I took it off
Oh what a thing
The finger survived
So why couldn’t I
When you took your love away.
