Red Dirt Thoughts Poem by Marilyn Lott

Red Dirt Thoughts

I was out the other day
Just travelin’ those red dirt roads
Thinking about my life
And where it’s likely to go

Looking to the past as well
Putting everything in perspective
I felt I need to plan ahead
And be a little more selective

After all, this was my life
And to continue my red dirt story
I needed to make some plans
If I wanted fame and glory

I looked at the landscape
As I continued to drive
Old barns, large bales of hay
All made me feel alive

Windmills clattering about
Their motion captivating
I found my life at this point
Was quite exhilarating

It was then that I decided
I’d not worry quite so much
Because my life already
Had such a peaceful touch

I’d take things as they came along
Enjoy the life I’ve got
Smile at each tomorrow
Continue my red dirt thoughts!
