Red Earth Celebration Poem by Marilyn Lott

Red Earth Celebration

t was the Red Earth celebration
So exciting with the sights and sounds
Colorful and so creative
The most unique festivity I’ve found

Dancing to the beat of the drums
Going back into ancient times
It is a big part of American history
We need to be reminded sometimes

The princess so sweet and so pretty
Smiled as she rode along
Dancers continued to entertain
To the beat of a traditional song

Their hearts were full you could tell
Pride in their ancestors I know
I love to watch their festivities
As down the street they go

They tell a story of survival
Strength found in body and mind
Courage of an ancient warrior
Negativity is left far behind

It’s a thrill to be part of this tradition
For they have a message to tell
I feel blessed to watch the procedures
And appreciate their struggles as well!
