Reflections Poem by Reginald Ruwende

Reflections

How we missed a missive intellible
Laced to a dame's scarred countenance
Tapestry to a mystery jarring
The cardinal sins behind the scenes
Verily not a ruse,
The abuse of a muse
Vacillating still in a rancid stream
Parting plushes ashore from this precipipe
Liberty..! !
She mumbles
.. Another victory stolen

Another span truncated by the one that strayed
By a knight charged unleashed, in whose grogginess sprayed
Wonder why Wonder still wonders?
Minding why in their jaded minds warped
Still play plinth to a gerontocracy whose tenure lapsed
Memoirs to the victims
History to the victors
Delving deep into our cocoons,
L I B E R T Y..! !
We cry

Behind the trinkets,
A telltale countenance telling a thousand tales
Flipping through blank pages of 'Uhuru'
Albeit servile to a range of clientele
The gawky and the grumpy
The daft and the deft
The candid, the timid
To the crudest of climates undoing their erudtion they all acclimatise
Wishing and praying this CURSE away
L i B e R t Y..!
They croon

Carry no knobkerries
Draw no daggers
Pull no trigggers
For CANAAN is nigh!
The gates of kleptocracy shall forever cease to fling
On our subtlety the juggernaut shall cruise no more
Neither shall Nyakasikana's revolution gobble own children
A peace-loving lot once more proudly acclaimed
LIBERTY..! !
We ROAR!
