Reflections In A Bar Poem by NGALAH GWEDENG

Reflections In A Bar

I wonder in this crowded dark
And wonder why true love should lack
The flare of fortune to incite
Favour in dreams to flush delight
Of plaints as stains that strain the pains 5
Endured when men who woo play saints.

I pause oft-times to ponder on
Pledge to plague a heart as a pun
Designed to redefine feeling
We fear to furnish with meaning 10
To stay and stray not when men pray
To voice not vice vile veins betray.

Betrayal borne in blood oozes
Through pores on bottles boor boozes
To veil the veneer in wry wit 15
And move a moment’s slip from pit
To the mammoth ditch where dudes clash
When Love to Lust concedes to crash.

I wonder as I wander back
In lovelorn leisure laced with black 20
Designs for a refined mourning
Why we seek to keep on cheating
A mammoth crowd that would not latch
On to a lad and lass for a lash.
