A backward glance at bygone days
With thoughts that stop to gently graze on
bits and pieces
of dreams we dared to dream.
We are like the songs we softly sing;
all the while telling ourselves that we have time
to get the lyrics right,
set the score,
create the liner notes,
and do the cover art.
Why do we score our lives like sheet music?
Like perforated tear sheets, crumpled and tossed to the floor,
we reach for a fresh page, a new day, a new year.
Unlike the past, we resolve to boldly step forth and grab hold
of life's offerings. Happy Birthday.
