Regarding This Poetry Thing... Poem by RIC BASTASA

Regarding This Poetry Thing...

i see the hen scratching
for grains on the ground followed
by her chicks

i hear the dog barking at noon
and even till night time
and even at the full moon
and even when the rain comes

i feel the way the last leaf falls
off from a twig of that
dying tree

i see children throwing stones
at the mango tree full of fruits
with all their innocent laughters
and joys abounding

i see birds against the horizon
migrating to another place
which i do not know and how far
would they go

the chicks turn into chickens,
dogs are butchered
the last leaf rots
the children are gone
the birds have lesser places to go
their territories gone too
and all these, all of these,
come to pass, and with us writing,
and soon shall be gone too.

have all these words helped
in whatever way they can?
