Regret Lament Poem by Mark Woelkers

Regret Lament

My heart has been stricken
By the most bitter cold of all
The grief of acceptance
That she'd never take the fall
I, just a moment
A haze in the years gone past
Never given the chance
To prove what could last
My eyes see a future
Filled with her memory
But not even for a fleeting moment
Do her eyes envision me
Relegated to a name
How does the heart forget?
The ones that it fell for
The ones that it regrets
