Regretting Love Poem by Anisha Nyambe

Regretting Love

Rating: 5.0

The feeling she gave you still remains.
The thought that she hates you makes you want to regret the pain
but only you know that her love is true
and only you know how to understand
the coincidence
of both of you reaching for the broken brass hand
and the impotence
you used when throwing her wish into your well.

Whispers, do you know what they mean
when they say, 'Love dreams are meant to sell'?
Then you wiped the guilt off your hands clean
expecting your silence not to leave a mark
you die and expect to regret the pain
of walking with her in the dark.
And her stolen lullabies still remain
in the nights when you can't
close your eyes to sleep
and in the days when you shan't
own the secrets you keep.
