Soon. Poem by Anisha Nyambe

Soon.

Rating: 5.0

Under the twinkling stars I stargaze
As you join me you start to smile
Far away we can see the cattle graze
‘When, ' you continue to ask all the while
My only reply for you is ‘soon'
I'm sorry for giving you so much disappointment
Instead of at your eyes, I look at the moon
And at daylight you will go for your appointment

‘Shh, ' says the harsh Gail
‘Can't you hear that? '
All I heard was a wail
‘The trees gossip with the bat.'

‘When will you understand? ' you tell me
‘Soon, ' is my answer yet again
My problem, till date, I cannot see
Your tears wet my clothes like rain
But I shall not say my favorite weather
‘Soon, ' I tell you, I say
I will continue to sleep on heather
You will continue to ask me day by day

it is a story of two lovers. one keeps on making promises he can't keep and when he's asked when he'll fulfil them, his reply is always 'soon'
