something changing

Remember - Poem by something changing

(a new writing exercise I've tried: when suffering from writer's block, write remember three times and see what evolves...)

Remember. Remember. Remember.
That time?
With you and I?
We were laughing,
Our eyes twinkling in the sunlight
The hairs of our arms standing on in the cold
Remember what you told me?
About love?
You said it never died
As much as it may fade
It never completely goes away
You smiled
Promising that it never ends
Even in death
If there is an afterlife
For neither of us knew
Or know
But if there is
Love lasts even there
I remember that day
Your hand in mine
Fingers tightly entwined
Scared to let go
But free
So free of fear
And sorrow
And pain
All we felt was love
And we knew
That was all we would ever need
