Remember Them Poem by Deidre Dixon

Remember Them

They went to serve this country with honor and pride.
Some of them survived in battle, but some who fought died.

They had thoughts when they left that they would be returning.
While away missing home and loved ones with a daily yearning.

They dreamed of a great reception with family, friends and a good meal.
Never thought when they left that their lives a war would steal.

They were fighting for our safety and to protect this entire nation.
Not for their loved ones only, but for all of us without hesitation.

They fought against enemies who were out to rob our freedom.
They served with courage, leaving those who desperately need them.

Whether we lost a loved one, those who were lost were fighting for us all.
Remember them this day and always because they died answering the call.

Memorial Day was set aside to remember those who lost their lives in combat.
A moment of silence is not much, but what they did for us all deserves that
