Remember What Happened To Jesus Poem by Francis Duggan

Remember What Happened To Jesus

I told my friend of my big worries and of the recent stresses I've known
But with a shake of his head and a shrug of his shoulders he said i have worries of my own
And remember what happened to Jesus can you name me one better than he
He was beaten and humiliated and crucified on Calvary.

With a simple shrug of his shoulders and a simple shake of his head
He said remember what happened to Jesus and i do remember what he said
That one by sin who was untainted should die in such a violent way
And to think that thousands of good people of violent crimes are suffering today.

And though i am a wretch who is Godless and to a God i never pray
I think of what my friend said to me and i recall what he did say
Remember what happened to Jesus his words in me ring ever true
Compared to that i am so lucky and worse things than stress i am due.

Remember what happened to Jesus his words with me long will remain
One who is well known for complaining though I've not known physical pain
The one who was the perfect example of one who did not cheat or lie
By cruel men was tortured and beaten and on a timber cross was left to die.
