Remembered Breeze Poem by Aimee Nell

Remembered Breeze

I throw my head out the window,
Breathing in the fresh air.
Smelling the night as I had so many time before.
Always comparing...
Comparing the scent of the breeze
To that of a night so dear to my heart.
The night you held me in your arms
And I felt you.
Felt,
As well as heard your whispered
'I love you's
In my ear.
Held your hand,
As if neither one of us would ever let go.
Let my heart soar,
As our lips slowly brushed against each other.
-
And I would always remember the smell of the air.
Not musty like before a rain,
Nor as clear as after one.
Not as sharp as when the snows came,
Nor the scent of a summer night.
It was foggy and slightly icy.
But I could never smell it again.
And now,
Tonight,
I can only recall the words used previously to describe it.
But I couldn't remember the scent itself.
And I wonder,
Is it because this night smells the same as that night?
Or was that night only a dream?
And I know...
And I knew all along...
It was just a dream.
