Remembering My Father's Wisdom Poem by Elizabeth Kiehn

Remembering My Father's Wisdom

Rating: 4.5

In the quiet of eve, sitting in light of the moon
Desperately needing comfort, I sit waiting for you
You see, lately my thoughts have grown quite dim
Have succumb to anguish I bury within
My heart plagued with worry, drowning reason of mind
Doom settling in, where hope once did reside
So quickly this conflict's escalated to war
Fury rising inside as I've not felt before
'Hush now my heart. Please silence your cries
You torture my soul with each pain that you sigh!
Do you not feel my suffering, the bitter chill in my bones
The mayhem we reap from thd havoc you've sown? '
I plead you, stop whimpering, you're clouding my mind
Give way this desperation so solace we'll find! '

Suddenly comes comfort in the warmth of your voice
'Elizabeth remember, come trials comes choice
Could this be a lesson life's trying to impart
Have you ever felt peace following your treacherous heart?
Open your eyes, you're not lost there is light
You weaken from battles there's no need to fight'

Embarrassed and ashamed, my eyes filled with tears
Your words I should know, with all my years

To my broken heart you say,
'With age comes wisdom, but it is only bestowed
To ones humble in heart, knowing weakness of soul
Yes you've fallen, now choose to stand up
Failure comes only if you choose you give up'

Aware in my heart your words to be true
I piece broken glass for reflection anew

'Until next time? ' I ask, your hand slipping from mine
'Until next time, ' you reply. 'It is never goodbye.'

In the quiet of eve, I sit in light of the moon
So thankful having had a precious father like you

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed or at my wit's end, I can still clearly hear the wise words of my stepfather. And as much as we had butt heads, I'll always be thankful for having known such a wonderful man, and that, when in desperate times, I can still hear his calming, warm voice.

Good reflection on an insightful advice given by a cherished dad, whose words of encouragement has continued to be a source of inspiration and courage. A lovely piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned with conviction. Definitely a good poem to share on the site. Thanks for sharing Elizabeth.
