Remembrance Poem by Kevin Hulme

Remembrance

The unexpected scent of an Apple can take me back,
To long-ago Mornings of Christmas Past.
A floor spread with gifts I eagerly eye,
Ribbons and Wrapping wantonly cast.
And decorations do hang across Lintel and Hall,
With Crape Silver Bells above a Sentry of Cards.
The Mistletoe waits for the eager and shy,
As the Neighbours come calling with warmest regards.
The Stockings are bulging with Apples once more,
An aroma that fills this most blessed of air.
Assorted Milk Chocolate in Box's of bright,
And hot Ginger Wine for the gathered to share.
The Frost covered Pane reflecting flickering Hearth,
As the feast of all Christmas upon the table is laid.
The Snow flakes swirling as the Clouds scurry by,
As we give Reign to the Season by enjoyment displayed.
So long-ago it was, in the time filtered past,
Those fond memories of Parents who were Loving and Dear.
It's quite strange how the scent of an Apple of all things,
Can make the Heart ache; and give rise to a tear.
