Remembrance Poem by Terra Bartlebaugh

Remembrance

Rating: 5.0

He’s gone now with a thousand words left unsaid,
Now all you can do is look ahead.

You stare at the casket, wooden and hollow,
The fact that he’s gone is hard to swallow.

He’s now just a star in cosmic universe,
The music and memories just make it that much worse.

A military man and a proud grandfather and husband,
Whatever he did he took an admirable stand.

You feel numb, melancholy, and yet so emotionless,
You feel so helpless in ways you can’t express.

You’re a strong girl, just a freshman in college,
You’re the smartest person I know but this you can’t seem to acknowledge.

He was your hero and someone you’ll never forget,
He was full of laughter and love and of wit.

You saw him a lot and now he’s gone just like that,
Accepting his death will be hard to work at.

We know that in the end, Death wins over us,
It causes us to be in great distress.

What’s unfair is that he takes our loved ones from us too early,
And then we think that there should be more time surely.

Just know that I’m always here for you when you want me to and when you don’t,
I’ll be here to talk to you and comfort you when others won’t.

It will take time, and perhaps lots thereof,
But you are someone who everyone can be proud of.
